Series 3 – Light Redirecting
The third series translates the directional reflection screen studies into functional luminaires designed to redirect light in controlled ways. These fixtures are intended primarily for ambient and decorative illumination. Through variations in fixture typology, assembly, print speed, and elevation, the series examines how surface deformation influences both the appearance of the luminaires and the distribution of emitted light. The series consists of prototypes that apply downward-facing scoop profiles that redirect light through controlled openings while limiting direct views of the light source. White PETG was selected for its reflective and diffusive qualities, allowing the textured extrusion paths to fragment and redistribute light across the printed surface. Beyond their functional role, the repeating scoop profiles create layered variations in texture, depth, and illumination across the fixture surface. Building on the tactile and visually engaging qualities established in the previous series, the Series 3 prototypes use this surface articulation more deliberately to redirect light, shield the source, and shape the resulting illumination.
